About Alli Jo - Owner and Mt Helix Headquarters Instructor:

Alli Jo comes from a family of educators and swim instructors.  She is a certified Water Safety Instructor through the American Red Cross. The summer of 2018 marks her 20th year of teaching individuals how to swim.

Her grandparents started a family swim school over 40 years ago in central California where summers were spent watching her mom, aunts and uncles teach hundreds of kids how to swim. Her first job was as a lifeguard and then she joined the family business during the summers throughout college and formed her own style of teaching- a unique mixture of fun, patient instruction with a huge emphasis on water safety.

While working full-time in management for a thriving San Diego business, she found herself teaching her friends' children how to swim after work.  The demand became so much that she decided to pursue her passion of opening a swim school to serve San Diego.  In the early spring of 2012, Alli Jo's Swim School was officially opened and it has been busy ever since.

Teaching swim lessons to both children and adults has always been her passion. “The globe is over 70% water and there is so much fun to be had in it. I love the moment when an individual switches from fear to enjoyment in the water. They're forever freed up to explore- whether it's boating, surfing, snorkeling, swimming or even a fun game of pool volleyball. I love giving the tools to equip people with both safety and enjoyment of the water.”

About Kelsey - Instructor for Central San Diego and East County Private Lessons:

Kelsey grew up in San Diego and loved the water since she was a child.  She began attending San Diego Jr. Lifeguard summer camp where she overcame fear of big waves and received the training needed to do what she loves in the ocean.  Kelsey was hired as a camp intern for two years before becoming a beach lifeguard with the City of San Diego at 18.  She was able to instruct and teach kids water safety while also having fun at the beach.

Kelsey swam as a competitive swimmer for 4 years and reached the state level in competition and proudly served two of those years as team captain.  She excelled at sprint distances and loved getting to compete in the team dynamic of relays.  She is currently studying to become an elementary school teacher and wants to use her gifts and talents to equip the next generation to be all they are called to be.  One of her biggest passions and hobbies in life is surfing and she helps lead Christian Surfers, a local surf group, in Pacific Beach.  Over the years, she has taught friends and family how to surf and swim and she is incredibly excited to continue to share the stoke!
